2 Chronicles 7:14: …and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Matthew 10:29-31:  Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows. The 40 Days for Life began in Bryan/College Station, Texas in 2004. Four members of the local Coalition for Life gathered around a table to seek God’s strategy in ending abortion locally, and they believed they were called to 40 days of prayer and outreach.

This year the 40 Days of Life in London is being held September 26-November 3, six days a week. The prayer vigils and outreaches will be held Monday through Friday from noon to 7pm, and on Saturday 7 am to 7 pm. In addition, a “Life Chain” will be held at Fanshawe and Richmond streets on September 30 from 2pm to 3 pm. In previous years the Chain has seen several hundred people linking arms and praying in a startling display of unity.

The key to the vigil is that it is silent and peaceful prayer further away from the abortion site than the law requires. Though the group will be carrying signs, it is not a protest. In fact, all participants must sign the Statement of Peace ( before being a part of the 40 Days events. Judy Belasch, whose family has been enthusiastic and seemingly tireless participants in the past, is this years chairperson.

The events will kick off on Saturday, September 22 at St. Georges Church with a baby shower. Terry Bauer, the London director of Birthright International, will be the speaker. Birthright International provides unconditional counseling and friendship to pregnant women, along with free pregnancy tests and legal advice. You can learn more about Birthright International at

The 40 Days for Life sees Christians from virtually all denominations come together to pray for the end of the scourge of abortion.
